Veronica KIDD

I am a graduate from Beverly Hills Design Institute, where I studied Fashion Design and Pattern Making.

Since childhood I have had a passion for design, art, architecture and jewelry. Fashion is a passion I shared with both of my grandmothers. My Cuban grandmother was an accomplished seamstress who owned her own clothing line and apparel factory. My southern belle grandmother was a trained pattern maker, seamstress and self taught at-home tailor. Fashion and design is in my DNA.

Through the Bachelor’s Fashion Design program, I gained experience in designing a wide range of collections paired with learning how to apply couture techniques in all styles of clothes. I have designed collections in groups and individually — this process entailed creating mood boards, trend and market research, keeping the target customer in mind while designing, choosing appropriate fabrication, creating color stories, sketching technical flats and fashion illustrations by hand and through Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.

The Associate’s Pattern Making program gave me the skills to design with fit, silhouettes and shape in mind and the ability to accurately and realistically understand how designs would translate from paper to a 3-D garment before the construction process. The pattern making program also instilled great attention to detail and taught me a wide range of knowledge of garment construction for one-of-a-kind couture pieces, luxury, sportswear and ready to wear apparel.

My design aesthetic is a mix of contemporary, couture, edgy and classic. I like to emphasis shape, silhouette and play with textures and textiles. As a Los Angeles native, I draw a lot of inspiration from my surroundings. The design process is what excites me most. To have an idea, sketch it and make it come to life through pattern making is so satisfying and truly my passion.
